
Computer engineer since 2012 at the University of Valladolid. In 2021 received his PhD at the University of Valladolid. He joined the Group of Atmospheric Optic from the Universidad de Valladolid (GOA-UVa) in 2009 with a PTA grant associated with technician works. He soon began securing consecutive contracts within the GOA-UVa, assuming increasing responsibilities and focusing on data-oriented tasks, which culminated in their first predoctoral contract. Following the completion of their doctoral research, they were awarded with two postdoctoral fellowships. In 2024, they achieved a position as a specialist technician in atmosphere and climate, affiliated with the Centro de Investigación de la Baja Atmósfera at the Universidad de Valladolid and associated with the GOA-UVa, where they continue to develop their professional career to this day. Since joining the group, they have consistently been involved in the research conducted by the GOA-UVa, contributing with their educational expertise to a group that initially lacked computer science specialists. Through this synergy between research and technical knowledge, they progressively developed research skills, ultimately completing their training period successfully. For their participation in the GRASP-ACE Marie Curie RISE project (in collaboration with GRASP-SAS), they hold the “Marie Curie Fellowship” distinction. Additionally, through involvement in projects funded by the Spanish Government, such as eEPOLAR and TRIPOLI, they have had the opportunity to participate in various research campaigns in both the Arctic and Antarctica.
Currently, he is responsible for the calibration infrastructure of GOA-UVa for NASA’s AERONET network, overseeing data quality and addressing the most critical technical aspects of the instrumentation that forms part of the network. To this end, he has participated in European projects such as ACTRIS (2011–2015), ACTRIS-2 (2015–2019), ACTRIS-PPP, ACTRIS-IMP, and ATMO-ACCESS. ACTRIS has been included in the ESFRI roadmap since April 2016.
Thanks to his background in computer science, he is involved in all phases of the projects that GOA-UVa carries out with ESA and EUMETSAT. These projects range from software development to data processing, analysis, and interpretation. Additionally, he contributes to the design and modeling of the tools developed for these purposes.
All this experience has led to their contribution to 37 scientific publications, which have been cited over 350 times, and to achieving an h-index of 13.
With 7 undergraduate theses supervised, 2 master’s theses, and 225 hours of teaching delivered since 2020 in the degree of Physics and the degree of Optics and Optometry, they hold 3 “trienios” and 1 “sexenio”.

abstract = {The work carried out within the AEROPA project, funded by the Spanish Ministry for Research and Innovation, is presented. The project is entitled “Characterization of AERONET aerosol observations over Europe for use into objectives of EMEP network (AEROPA)” and it was designed to assess and analyze of the aerosol optical depth (AOD) and Ångström exponent (AE) delivered by AERONET, for the comparison over the European region with the EMEP/MSC-W model. For this project various objectives were defined: a) the diagnosis of AERONET data quality over Europe and North Africa for aerosol characterization, b) the characterization of the AOD-AE data over Europe and its significance for climatology. c) comparison of AOD-AE AERONET data with EMEPMSC-W model belonging to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET.NO), in the European area taking into account the different AERONET data quality levels; and e) the discrimination and classification of aerosol types in Europe based on their optical properties and air mass origin. The aim of this proposal is establishing a set of recommendations about the correct use of the column-integrated aerosol data provided by AERONET (Aerosol Robotic Network,), within the objectives and scope of the European network EMEP (European Monitoring and Evaluation Program o Co-operative Program for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Long-Range Transmission of Air Pollutant in Europe). To achieve these objectives it was necessary to develop a relational database that contains the aerosol properties over the Europe area. This relational database is powered by the CÆLIS system (www.caelis.uva.es), developed by the GOA-UVA, and can be accessed through a web interface. One of the main objectives is the development, application and operation of a simplified version of the Unified EMEP model, to estimate the aerosol optical depth. The U-EMEP is a chemical transport model (CTM) developed by the MSC-W (Meteorological Synthesizing Centre-West) center, Norwegian Meteorological Institute. This model estimates the concentration of various atmospheric components, by tracking the long-range transboundary atmospheric transport, at a global, regional or local scale. The simplified version provides aerosol optical depth (AOD), by means of an aerosol model that estimates this radiative property. The AOD is not a common product in CTM, but nowadays it is seen as a necessary quantity for the global aerosol characterization. We have carried out a wide evaluation of other aerosol parameters such as: the microphysical parameters, the asymmetry parameter, the single scattering albedo, etc., a work that was not included in the initial objectives of the Project. This extensive evaluation has the advantage to give a more complete characterization of the aerosol properties that are provided by AERONET. Most of these results can be seen in this website through the selection of a given site. Plotting and mapping tools are also available upon registration. This system, which is continuously improving, was designed for aerosol data analysis related to aerosol studies and we believe that it will be useful for most AERONET users in Europe and other research groups working in this field.},

During the last years a new optical calibration facility have been developed and deployed at the Izaña Observatory for the calibration and characterization of radiation instrumentation within research activities. The new systems are the result of a joint effort of the Izaña Atmospheric Research Center (AEMET) and the Atmospheric Optics Group of Valladolid University (GOA-UVA). The high altitude Izaña Atmospheric Observatory is involved in several national and international atmospheric and environmental research networks and programs (i.e. GAW, BSRN, AERONET, NDACC, RBCC-E) in which is crucial a robust and traceable Quality Assurance & Quality Control system for the different broad band radiometers, photometers and spectrometers, which measure, among other ones, spectral solar radiation, aerosol optical depth and total ozone amount. This new facility allows the absolut, spectral and cosine response calibration of the above mentioned instrumentation in an isolated dark room where several set-ups are available for each kind of response characterization. At this time there are six set-ups running at the laboratory: one for the radiance calibration, one for the calculation of the angular response, one for the spectral response characterizarion, one for the slit function determination and two (vertical and horizontal oriented ones) for the irradiance calibration. The different set ups account for the different specific requirements of each sensor to be calibrated depending on its physical features as shape, size and weight. The systems have been built in a modular way, and the control and acquisition software have been developed such way the calibration facility could be easily adapted and meet the specific requirements of each program. The systems, as well as some examples of calibrations, are shown in this presentation.
