Nacida en Villarmentero de Esgueva (Valladolid, España) en 1954. Licenciada en Física por la Universidad de Valladolid (UVa) en 1978, obteniendo el Título de Doctor en Ciencias en 1985. Ha ocupado una plaza de Profesor Ayudante en el Departamento de Física Aplicada de la Facultad de Ciencias desde 1978 a 1988. Profesor Titular Interino en el curso 88-89 para en 1989 obtener la plaza de PTEU adscrita a este mismo Dpto en la sección de Palencia de la E.T.S. de Ingenierías Agrarias (Universidad de Valladolid). En el año 2002 obtuvo la plaza de Catedrático de Escuela Universitaria (CAEU) y en 2011 la Cátedra de Universidad (CAU) en el área de Física Aplicada. Desde 2012 desarrolla su actividad en la Facultad de Educación y Trabajo Social (FEyTS) de la UVa, en el Dpto de Ciencias Experimentales, Sociales y de la Matemática dentro del área de Didáctica de la Ciencias Experimentales. Su docencia se ha realizado en las asignaturas básicas de Física de primeros cursos de las Licenciaturas de Física, Química (Facultad de Ciencias) y en las distintas especialidades de Ingeniería Agraria
de la ETSIA de Palencia. Otras asignaturas impartidas han sido Energías Renovables y Agrometeorologia así como diferentes asignaturas relacionadas con su actividad investigadora en los Master de la ETSIA y FEyTS.
La actividad investigadora se centra sobre los estudios relativos a la medida y modelización de la radiación solar con el desarrollo y aplicación de modelos de transferencia radiativa en la atmósfera, aplicándose a los estudios atmosféricos, teledetección y en el campo de la energía solar. En los estudios atmosféricos, las medidas mediante técnicas ópticas fotométricas y espectro-radiométricas se usan, tanto a nivel de suelo como sobre sensores satelitales para la determinación de los componentes atmosféricos, como las propiedades ópticas de los aerosoles y vapor de agua. Se estudia y analiza su variabilidad y climatología, comparando datos y comportamientos con otras técnicas. Dirige junto con el Dr. A.M. de Frutos el Grupo de
“Optica Atmosférica” de la Universidad de Valladolid, (GOA-UVA https://goa.uva.es/), que es una Unidad de Excelencia según la normativa de la Junta de Castilla y León y Grupo GIR de la UVa. Es la directora/responsable de la red RIMA-AERONET (https://aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov/), red científica de medida y determinación de las propiedades ópticas de los aerosoles atmosféricos, gestionada por NASA (https://aeronet.gsfc.nasa.gov/) y la Universidad de Lille, donde el GOA-UVa es un Centro de Calibración de los fotómetros de esta red. Realiza una amplia colaboración científica con diversas instituciones, como la Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), el Instituto de Técnica Aeroespacial (INTA), el Goddard Space Fligh Center de NASA en EEUU, la Universidad de Lille-Francia, el “Andoya Space Center” en Noruega, el “Finnish Meteorological Institute”, el Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) en Alemania y el Instituto de Meteorología de Cuba. Presenta como méritos 5 sexenios de investigación. Ha dirigido 14 tesis doctorales, más de 30 proyectos de investigación y más de 200 publicaciones (180 artículos “peer-review”), con un índice h=38 (Fuente WOS). Durante 2009-2012 ha sido Miembro del IAMAS-IRS (“Internacional Radiation Comission, https://www.iamas.org/irc) como representante español. Miembro del Consejo Asesor de Medioambiente de la Junta de Castilla y León (BOCYL, 15 Dic. 2005) desde 2005-2009, como experta de la comunidad científica. Actualmente es miembro del Pleno de la Cámara de Comercio de Valladolid como asesor en temas Medioambientales y de Cambio Climático.
